We are a team of 3 Directors, who are responsible for managing the day to day running of Deen Network CIC (DN). We all work in a voluntary capacity, so no one gets paid to do anything! DN is managed in our spare time, mostly at the weekends. The 3 individuals, who ensure that DN meets the aims it was set up for, are:
Samina Noor Deen: Director | Chairperson
I have lived in Nottingham all my life with the exception of living in Pakistan on two different occasions of my life. I currently work full time for the local council as a Community Care Officer, supporting individuals with health or disability needs over the age of 18. The rest of my time is committed to my 22 year old son, my family and Deen Network.
I feel living, studying and working in Nottingham, has enabled me to become closer to the citizens of Nottingham and gain a better understanding of their needs and this experience provided me with the rationale for the community projects we run. I love imparting the many skills I have acquired over the years to younger people and feel that this process is sometimes lost as time progresses.
My time in Pakistan provided me with a different set of experiences that paved my path into fundraising for needy causes.
Working in the community at local and international level has provided me with in-depth knowledge, which I claim forms the basis of my course in the ‘University of Life’, which I shall never graduate from!
I established Deen Network with the support of my family and friends, as I felt we can all contribute to making a difference and that great ideas, are only great ideas if they are made a reality, hence the slogan for Deen Network: Great Ideas in Action!
I strongly believe in supporting individuals to empower them to become self-sufficient, positive and proactive members of society.
Kaneez Akbar: Director | Treasurer
BA Hons in Accounting and Finance
I am a qualified accountant and currently work in the Elderly Care industry. I have 3 son’s aged 15, 13 and 5. I became a volunteer for Deen Network when it first started and my role is to support with managing the annual accounts. I take part in many voluntary activities and have encouraged my children to take part too and I feel volunteering has made a great difference to my life and to the lives of my children too.
Robina Din: Secretary
BA Hons in Business Administration
I graduated in 1999 in Business Administration (BA Hons) and completed my TEFL Teaching Qualification in 2000. I have worked in various fields since, mainly Project Management, Community Development and Teaching.
I have recently moved back to Nottingham after living in Saudi Arabia for 2 years and working as an English Teacher. I have a daughter who is 7 and a son who is 5 years old! They do keep me busy but I manage to make time for Deen Network, as and when possible, and I feel it is important for us all to take part in such initiatives.
Although we all appreciate our lives, if we take some time out for others and aid good causes, I believe this will ‘add value’ to our lives in a very special way. Due to these reasons I chose to become a Director and Secretary of Deen Network.
I have helped with various charities over the years, but the thing I find most unique about Deen Network is that it is all on a voluntary basis and 100% of any income from events goes to the cause – event costs are funded by sponsorship and donations in-kind.
My role as a Director and Secretary has been crucial to ensuring the smooth running of DN by documenting meetings, recording project ideas, organising events, and keeping accurate records of all of this, for auditing purposes.
Event feedback and recommendations for future projects are also documented. Thus please give your feedback/offer project ideas on the website. Take some time out for others, the rewards are priceless!
